CH2M HILL Summit Managers

The challenge? Providing exceptional operations support to National Science Foundation (NSF) funded researchers conducting research in the Arctic. Our Summit Manager jobs provide you with an opportunity to function in a dual role providing onsite oversight of subcontractors, safety & operations, and construction at our Summit research facility in Greenland, as well as working with our Project Delivery groups to coordinate various Summit projects while in the office in Englewood, CO. This role will work on a rotational basis with a counterpart according to a set operational schedule. While one person is in Greenland, the other will work at our Englewood campus. You should be a strong communicator who is able to work well as part of a team; preferably with previous experience in the Arctic or U.S. Antarctic Programs (USAP); and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each Summit Manager role.

On-site at Summit Station

Both Summer and Winter Phases

  • Acts as the CH2MHILL on-site prime contractor representative overseeing subcontractor’s management and operation of Summit Station.
  • Reports directly to the CH2M HILL Polar Services (CPS) Program Director.
  • Interfaces with CH2M HILL’s Summit Project Delivery Manager in Englewood and other CH2M HILL departments as required.
  • Assists the CPS Program Director with monthly, quarterly, and annual operations and financial reporting.
  • Is responsible for the overall Summit Station Safety, Health and Environment program while on-site working with the full-time CPS Safety Manager .
  • Specifically deploys to Summit Station Greenland for (approximately) 3-month periods of time on a rotational basis during both the Arctic Summer and Winter seasons.
  • Manages and oversees the medical subcontractor (RMI or other) as well as other subcontractors at Summit Station. Develops statement of work, working with the CH2M HILL procurement group, maintaining the medical clinic inventory, facilitating the medical resupply, and approving RMI invoices.
  • Assumes on-sight Incident Commander role in the event of an incident.
  • Assumes on-sight Medevac Coordinator in the event of an incident.
  • Maintains HAZ COMM system, inventories and MSDS database. Conducts all chemical specific training.
  • Conducts regular weekly safety meetings with subcontractor personnel with participation from subcontractor staff.
  • Works with subcontractor staff to develop and facilitate pre-deployment safety training for each of the four deployment phases.
  • Participates in CH2M HILL monthly activity report review meetings, when necessary
  • Assists with rotational chores “house mouse” when on-site at Summit
  • Performs other duties as required.

Winter Phase Specific

  • During the winter phases, the CH2M HILL Summit Manager performs daily health and safety check-ins, weather observations, sets weather conditions, and is the Point of Contact for check-in/out from the station. (During the summer the subcontractor station supervisor does this as part of their duties).
  • During the winter phase deployment(s) the CH2M HILL Summit Manager assumes the role of on-sight medical person responsibilities. Required training will be provided. (During the summer CH2MHILL subcontracts with RMI or other providers to provide a paramedic to perform these duties during the high population timeframe).

At the CH2M HILL Englewood Campus

  • Acts at a Summit Project Deliver Manager/Integrator working closely with other CH2M HILL departments.
  • Reports directly to the CPS Program Director.
  • Interfaces with the CH2M HILL Summit Manager on-site at Summit.
  • Works closely with CH2M HILL’s project controls/scheduling, engineering design, procurement, HSE, project accounting, IT and other departments as required in support of Summit project activities.
  • Works closely with the other members of the CPS Summit Team.
  • Supports the development and utilization of the Greenland Operational Research Model.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or other technical degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience at the project management level.
  • Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to demonstrate ability to be a fully functioning member of a team in remote locations.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience providing oversight or support of research activities in the Arctic or Antarctic is a real plus (highly desirable).
  • Minimum of 5 years of safety experience or combination of education/multiple years experience in construction, with a working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
  • Willing to take contracts administration training
  • Experience in Federal contract administration (desirable).
  • Must be Wilderness First Responder (WFR) trained and certified or have the ability to be trained and certified before field deployment.
  • Willing and able to obtain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training and certification (desirable).
  • Able and willing to perform other duties as needed, as skills and program allow.
  • Must successfully complete the physical and dental exams as required by the NSF for deploying to Greenland.
  • Must pass a CH2M HILL-administered background check.
  • CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa to work in the U.S. for this position.
